Q: What comes to your mind when you hear the word masculinity?
A: Strength, courage, steadfast in what is believes and known to be right even when standing alone, kindness, virtue.
Q: What are some of the key moments in your life that forged you into the man you are today? What did you learn from them? How can you prepare to pass them on?
A: Attending the temple and seeking a relationship with the Lord; my friendship with other men from different age groups and walks of life; my own experience of being raised by my father.
I have learned that relationship is what covenants are about, it is what comes first, everything else follows after that, true discipleship follows true relationship; I have learned how to be friends with those who are good people who disagree with me, how to be challenged and challenge others on principles and beliefs, to make sure that what we say and do has been thought about, and is a truly believed principle instead of a blindly followed dogma; I have learned the value of honoring those who have come before and learning from them.
I believe I can prepare to pass these things on by mentally preparing to take opportunities to teach as they naturally occur and present themselves. It needs to be shown in how I live, but I need to make sure I teach by more than action, I need to teach by word when the moment is right. This is how lessons stick in a youth's mind.
